Blanchard Grinding is commonly referred to as rotary surface grinding. This grinding process is used to efficiently remove stock from one side of large parts, transforming them to their desired dimensions and surface finish. It’s a great option for large parts, adding size versatility and eliminating mismatches. It’s also more economical and saves a considerable amount of time over surface grinding. The reason for this is Blanchard Grinding utilizes a significantly greater horsepower than other grinding methods, and the process is quick and efficient. Blanchard Grinding is normally performed on ferrous materials where magnets are used to hold the metal in place when grinding. It can also be used on non-ferrous materials using alternative types of holding devices. Blanchard Grinding can grind to a tolerance of +/- 0.001” and leaves a surface finish around 65 RMS. The signature grinding mark from Blanchard Grinding is considered aesthetically appealing. The most common parts Blanchard Grinding is typically used on include large castings, forgings, sections of plate stock, large stampings, moulds, and dies.
